EGYPT

Shame flashes briefly

In my brain
Flickering flame

Pain
People, place

Memory

Hurt
Degraded
Broken

Egypt
State of slavery
Wants to take me

Back

But I will not go
From here now
To then again

I will not surrender
The promise

In which I abide
By Grace

DEPARTURE

I did not want
To have the last

Word

Fall flat
In an unknowing

Silence

A response
Would have been
Welcome

Years of labour
Shared
Sweated stress

Nothing remained
But departure

Dust shaken
From feet

Facing freedom
On my own

To Stand Alone Again

I kneel at her feet
In Persona Christi
Bathing them in prayer

That she might stand
Again just once
And learn to walk
All over

Two of us propping
Her up until she
Is able to stand alone

She might even look
Forward to a slim hope

We could go to Wexford
And stay a night
In a place looking over
The harbour

And set our dreams abroad
On the parting ships of dawn
Daydreaming every possibility

The light of it shining
In her ancient eyes
And smiling

Loveless Is The Bed

Change the sea
From blue to brown

Paint the moon
Blood red

Blackened
Is the bridal gown

Loveless
Is the bed

Where she lays
Dead
